Abby grew up in Chicago, IL, received her Bachelor's degree in Speech & Hearing Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She went on to pursue my Master’s Degree in Communication Sciences & Disorders at Saint Xavier University in Chicago, IL. Abby’s favorite part about being a speech therapist is building relationships with kiddos and helping them make progress toward their goals. She is excited to be a part of developing positive communication with kiddos and their families. When she’s not at KDA, Abby enjoys running, spending time at the beach, trying new restaurants, and exploring new cities!
Adrianne attended Miami University of Ohio where she received her Bachelors degree. She then went on to obtain her Masters of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Adrianne was was inspired to become a speech therapist through her volunteer experiences working with individuals with a variety of learning differences. Adrienne likes providing the support needed to help each individual communicate effectively with their family and others and support their ability to express their uniqueness to those around them! Outside of the center, Adrienne enjoys spending time at the beach with family and friends. She also enjoys traveling and exploring new cities.
Alicia is a San Diego native and attended UC Santa Barbara for her B.A. in Psychology while also obtaining a minor in Linguistics. She then pursued a post-baccalaureate certificate in Communication Sciences and Disorders at Chapman University. Alicia loves having the love the opportunity to help children reach their communication goals! The relationships that she forms with kiddos and their families are so special to her and she is proud to be part of their therapy team. Outside of KDA, Alicia enjoys spending time where she likes to hike, bike, run, go onon camping trips and travel to new places.
After growing up in Southern California Alisa headed north for school and graduated from San Francisco State University. She then continued on to Long Beach State University. Alisa is committed to the kids as there is no better feeling than watching a child learn how to communicate and express themselves! She feels very lucky in that I get the best of both worlds. Not only do I get to work with, and be around amazing children everyday, as the KDA clinic director, I get the opportunity to help parents navigate the initial (and sometimes overwhelming) process and make the whole experience a little less scary. Outside of the KDA center, Alisa likes to travel, loving anything that involves being outside: hiking, sailing, and running! Alisa’s current goal is to run a half marathon in every state... still have 46 states to go!
Amy is originally from Orlando, Florida and lived there the first 36 of her life until moving to San Diego. She went back to school at age 34; attending Adventist University of Health Sciences in Orlando Florida from 2014-2016, where she earned my degree as an Occupational Therapy Assistant. What she likes most about being a COTA is the fun she gets to have with kids while helping them to succeed and find independence and joy in their daily lives…and all the ways each child makes me smile each and every day!
At KDA, Amy also is our insurance authorization coordinator / administrative specialist. In this role, she is able to help our kiddos and families with the behind the scenes aspects that help to ensure continuity of valued services. In this administrative position she has had the opportunity to get to know families and kiddos as well as understand and play a role all of the moving parts that are crucial for therapy to be put in place and continue for their children. This role is also so meaningful to her and it has helped her a more well-rounded therapist. Outside of KDA, Amy spend most of her time with my family with her 3 furry kids-my doggies Finnegan, Dobby, and Cleo. Most weekends you can find the hiking at Mission Trails or Sunset Cliffs or enjoying the company of other families and 4-legged friends at Coronado or OB dog beach. She loves being outdoors here where the weather is so beautiful and we enjoy being active and healthy!
Arianna attended San Diego State University for her Bachelor's degree and Northern Arizona University for her Master's degree in Clinical Speech-Language Pathology. As a speech-language pathologist, she loves teaching, guiding, and supporting children as they become the most effective communicators they can be. The best part about her job is that she can do all of this through play! There's nothing more rewarding than watching a child solidify their speech and language skills while they're having fun! When she's not working, she enjoys country line dancing, singing with her a cappella group, and playing board games with her friends and family!
Ashley received her B.S in Exercise Science from Old Dominion University and then continued on and received her M.S in Occupational Therapy from Virginia Commonwealth University. What she loves most about being an occupational therapist is that she gets to build relationships with each of the kiddos and is a part of them growing and achieving new milestones through play! As she is new to the California sunshine, on her free time, she loves going to the beach with friends, traveling to new places, and exploring San Diego with her dog.
Brittany obtained her B.A in Mathematics at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. She then went on to receive her DPT in Physical Therapy at University of Southern California. Brittany has worked in outpatient orthopedics, inpatient acute, and most recently inpatient pediatrics working with children with TBI, wheel chair evaluations and fittings, neonatal intensive care unit, and gait trainers. Brittany enjoys working with the pediatric population and their families as it gives her an opportunity to be creative and innovative with her treatment plans to fit each and every child. She loves seeing the progress the kids make towards meeting their goals. Outside of the center, Brittany enjoys the outdoors while maintaining an active lifestyle. She loves to run, hike, go to the beach, and play with my golden doodle puppy, Chase.
Chris V. was born and raised in Paris, France. Early on, he realized how passionate he was about helping people overcome various life limiting conditions and live as independently as possible. He graduated from the ADERF College in Paris with a BS in occupational therapy and soon after moved to San Diego, where he became board certified and licensed as an occupational therapist. Chris has had a rewarding career as an occupational therapist and has worked in a variety of settings with children, adolescents, adults, and seniors. He treated diagnoses and conditions including sensory processing disorder, autism, Down syndrome, ADHD, learning disabilities, depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, dementia, bipolar, and more. He owned and directed a successful OT company for many years. He is known for effectively combining various frameworks to address the unique needs of his clients. He often worked and consulted with multidisciplinary teams and loves to empower other clinicians to explore and incorporate new approaches. His approach is holistic, developmental, and relationship based. He is intuitive while also firmly rooted in the framework of the occupational therapy profession. He understands that creating trust with his clients is the foremost important step of any therapy program and he strives to achieve emotional engagement with all of his clients. Some of his favorite moments as a therapist is when his clients - children and parents - experience a breakthrough about their ability to handle a difficult situation that they had thought of as impossible. He is passionate about inspiring parents, children, and his colleagues to keep exploring new ways to foster growth. Chris is known in the community to be a strong advocate for individual with special needs. Chris is also pursuing an advanced certification as a professional life coach. With success, he has begun to implement coaching techniques when mentoring other clinicians and consulting with parents. During his free time, Chris enjoys cooking, salsa dancing, gardening, sailing, hiking, and traveling the world.
Cocoa attended the University of Vermont (in Burlington VT) for both her undergraduate and graduate degrees. As a pediatric therapist, she enjoys meeting the kids and families for the first time. As this is often for their first time in therapy, helping the whole family feel safe, welcome, and as though their needs are being met and their voices are being heard is so rewarding to her. Cocoa also loves how her days can be so new and different each day as kids can be unpredictable as they are full of surprises! It's amazing to watch kids find their strength, and to be a part of their team is very rewarding and is the greatest part of being a therapist! Outside of the center, Cocoa loves a lazy afternoon on the couch with a good book, but most of my time is spent outside exploring with my family. Hiking, going to the park, street fairs, farmer's markets, and, of course, the beach! I also love to travel, whenever possible.
Danielle obtained her Masters at the University of Central Florida. As a pediatric therapist she really enjoy seeing the progress kiddos make each day in therapy. It really is an amazing feeling to know you are a part of helping kiddos and watching them meet their goals and enhance their language skills. Outside of the KDA center, Danielle enjoys the outdoors and one of her favorite things to do is to hike at Torrey Pines or Cowles Mountain.
Danielle graduated and obtained her B.S. from Utah State University in Communication Disorders and Deaf Education. In the past, she has worked in the educational environment and in academic settings upon joining our team. As a speech therapist, Danielle enjoys seeing the children she works with make gains with their goals and working with their families in a one-to-one environment. Outside of the center, Danielle enjoys traveling around the world with her fiance.
Denise is a native Minnesotan who received her B.A. in Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences at the University of Minnesota. She then jetted off to South Korea to teach English to elementary students for a year. After moving back to pursue her Masters degree, she graduated from Portland State University with a M.S. in Speech Language Pathology. Denise has always had a passion for working with kids and she loves building strong relationships with her clients and their families to work together as a team on communication goals. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, cooking, trying new restaurants, live music, hiking, and exploring sunny San Diego!
Eric completed his Bachelors degree in business management at the University of Phoenix in Salt Lake City, UT. He then completed his Masters degree in Occupational Therapy at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in San Marcos, CA. Eric enjoys forming relationships with the kids and their families and seeing the impact that occupational therapy is having in their daily lives. Outside of KDA, Eric enjoys spending time with his wife and two dogs at the beach, and enjoying all that San Diego has to offer.
Iris was born and raised in San Diego, CA. She received her Bachelors of Science degree from UCLA. Her experience and love for working with children as a dance teacher and tutor led her to pursue her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in San Marcos, CA. Iris loves working and helping people of all ages and especially enjoys helping kiddos grow, learn, and develop their gross motor skills through fun and creative activities. Outside of KDA, Iris loves spending time with her family, her fiance (wedding in November!), and her two German Shepherds, Kayla and Durham. You can find her outdoors hiking, at the beach, camping, taking road trips, exploring our beautiful country (7 more States to go!) and the world!
Jessi received her Bachelors degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences and her Masters degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from East Carolina University, in Greenville, NC. and recently relocated to San Diego. Jessi grew up herself with selective mutism in which that experience made her want to be able to help children with communication difficulties. Jessi likes knowing as a pediatric therapist that she is helping and making a positive impact on children’s lives. Outside of the center, Jessi likes to be active enjoying the outdoors, doing water sports, hiking, going to the beach and spending time with her dog, Zena.
Katherine received her Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Neuroscience from the University of San Diego and my Master’s degree in Speech, Language, and Learning from Northwestern University. Her favorite part of being a speech therapist is getting to know kids and their families and watching kids grow and develop in their environments. In her spare time, she likes to walk by the beach, spend time with her family, and travel.
Kelsey grew up in Fort Wright, Kentucky and received her Bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Cincinnati. She continued her education at the University of Cincinnati, earning her Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology. Kelsey’s favorite part about being a speech language pathologist is building relationships with kids and watching them learn. In her free time, Kelsey enjoys hiking, exercising, and being anywhere outdoors.
Kylie received her Bachelors of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies: Speech Language Technology with a minor is Disability Studies and a Speech Language Pathology Assistant certificate from Northern Arizona University. Kylie currently is also attending Nova Southeastern University Masters in Speech Language Pathology program. Kylie is CPR Certified, holds a SLPA License and Emergency Credential for the State of California. Kylie loves working with kids and am so excited to be working at KDA with the clients she gets to treat and work with their families generalizing skills into the home environment. Outside of KDA, Kylie enjoy being outdoors, loves hiking and traveling with her family and friends.
Lauren graduated with her master’s degree from the University of Iowa. Her favorite thing about being a Speech Language Pathologist is helping children reach their full potential and working with all different ages. In her free time, she enjoys doing a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, running, and going to the beach- anything that involves spending time in the sunny San Diego weather!
Lindsay completed her undergraduate studies at Oklahoma State University. She then went on and graduated from University of St. Augustine, San Diego Campus where she obtained her OTR/L. What she enjoys the most about being a therapist is teaching the occupation of 'play' to her clients where that is the focus of everyday. This makes being an OT a lot of fun. On her free time, Lindsay enjoys spending time with husband and daughter, loves to travel and has been to Egypt, Hong Kong, South Africa, India!
Maura received her B.A from Western Washington University in Communication Sciences and Disorders and her M.A from Washington State University in Speech Language Pathology. Her final rotation in graduate school brought her to Arizona, where she completed my last semester at Cardon Children’s Medical Center. Maura’s favorite part of being a therapist is having those ‘ah-ha’ moments with her clients and families. Sometimes that’s when a little one says a new word or when an older child figures out how to make a sound correctly. Being a part of these milestones with families makes my job incredible. Outside of work you can find her outside. Whether it’s climbing a mountain, or exploring a neighborhood, she’d rather be outdoors. Maura’s favorite hobbies include whitewater rafting and backpacking. Since my move to San Diego, she’s also becoming a big fan of the beach!
Megan received her B.S. in Communication Disorders from Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. She then went on and received her M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, TX. What she likes the most about being a therapist is helping others and their families reach goals that will make their lives better. Seeing smiles on her client's faces as they make progress makes each day at work a great day. Outside of work, she likes to spend my time baking, sewing, taking photographs, and traveling. Megan’s goal is to visit all 50 states!
Megan went to school at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa where she obtained my Masters in Occupational Therapy. As a therapist she loves to build relationships and having a positive impact on the lives of children and their families. Outside of KDA, she enjoys hiking, going to the beach, and exploring San Diego!
Monique attended San Diego State University for her undergraduate and graduate degrees. As a therapist, she loves seeing clients progress and make gains in their speech and language abilities. There is no better feeling than seeing a client who had difficulty communicating improve their skills while reducing their frustration level. For Monique, developing a relationship and rapport with children with Autism is one of the most unbelievable feelings! She can honestly say, she loves what she does and the career path she chose. Outside of the KDA center, Monique loves to dance, travel and spend time with family and friends.
Shaina earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech-Language Pathology at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She then worked as a Mental Health Therapist at The Center for Autism in Philadelphia. It was during that time in her career that she recognized my passion for building a connection with children and helping them learn how to communicate and express themselves to the outside world. Now, as a therapist at KDA, she enjoys being able to continue building close relationships with her clients as they grow and develop their language skills. Outside of the clinic, Shaina likes to spend my time socializing with friends, traveling to new cities and countries experiencing different cultures, and making time to catch the beautiful sunset San Diego has to offer.
Stephanie, a Los Angeles native, received both her B.A. and M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology from CSU, Long Beach. Working in pediatrics, she particularly loves finding each child’s unique strengths and interests, and implementing fun and creative activities into therapy. She prides herself in being an up-beat and dynamic therapist, who believes that children should look forward to coming to speech. In her free time, Stephanie enjoys hiking, going to the beach, going to concerts, watching football, and spending time with family and friends.
Teresa attended the State University of Albany where she obtained her bachelors in Human Biology. She then attend Sage Graduate School where she complete her masters in Occupational therapy. Following her first two years as an occupational therapist, she pursued my post-professional doctorate degree in occupational therapy at Chatham University. Teresa feels the best part of being a pediatric therapist is the positive changes that she can help make in children and families lives. Of course, playing at work all day isn’t so bad either! Outside of KDA, Teresa enjoys playing volleyball, outdoor activities, and spending time with family and friends.
Vidya attended the University of California at Irvine for her undergraduate training, graduating with a double Bachelors in Political Science and Sociology, with a minor in International Relations. Her experience as a Court Appointed Special Advocate at Voices for Children and her love for working with children led her to pursue her Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology at Columbia University, New York. Vidya enjoys the creative aspects of treating children ranging from birth to 25. Arts and crafts provide a way for Vidya to fashion games and other materials based on the child's interest so that learning is an enjoyable process for the child. In her spare time, Vidya enjoys a variety of hobbies and interests, including (but not limited to!) cooking, baking (and subsequently eating the food she cooks and bakes!), reading, zentangling, cleaning and organizing (nerd alert!), and walking along the beautiful waters of sunny Southern California.
